What is an Orthopedic Shoe?
Orthopaedic shoes are shoes that are specifically designed and crafted to offer extensive support or to accommodate the mechanics and structure of the muscles and bones in the foot, ankle and leg. The shoes have a number of specified beneficial features and functions in the designs that separate them from everyday footwear and put the required users feet at the forefront of priority.
Why Would I Benefit from Orthopedic Shoes?
Orthopaedic shoes are designed to cater to the fact that many foot problems may come in different sizes, widths and shapes, with many elements of the shoe vastly improving the comfort and ease of use as opposed to a standard shoe. Some of the key features of an orthopaedic shoe include:
Customized inner soles to ensure the arch or the foot is well supported and cushioned, avoiding any strain which may be put on the heel, balls of the feet or the ankle, which could in turn lead to more severe foot injuries.
Extra wide toe boxes cater for people who may suffer from bunions, swelling or sores. The orthopedic shoe allows for more movement around the toes compared to a standard shoe, which may cause infection in the skin or injury to joints if they apply too much pressure to the foot.
VELCRO® fasteners are a prominent feature on orthopedic shoes, this is to allow for size changes in the foot. People who often suffer with swelling need to allow the fluctuation in shoe size, instead of wearing a shoe that may be too big or too small.
Orthopedic shoes feature seamless inners, this is to prevent any rubbing or ulcerations which may easily go unnoticed by someone with diabetic feet. If a diabetic foot becomes infected with bacteria it may go undetected and can escalate quickly when it is left.
