Top Rated and Reviewed Hospital Gowns

Being in a hospital is never easy for anyone, whether you are young or old. It may be more stressful for seniors to be hospitalized because of their preexisting health conditions. They may also fear the chances of recurring trips to the hospital for various reasons.

When Are You Required to Wear a Hospital Gown?

When patients are admitted to the hospital, they are required to change into a hospital gown throughout their stay. Many seniors and elderly find hospital gowns, also known as “johnny” gowns embarrassing to wear because of the way they are made. Although it is a requirement for the patients to wear these hospital gowns, many detest them and some even try to avoid wearing them. Wearers of hospital gowns feel vulnerable especially when their family members are not around to cover them up properly. Patients are also escorted through open areas of the hospital with gowns that are revealing and unable to provide proper coverage.

What you wear affects how you feel about yourself and this is true for all of us. When seniors are hospitalized, they are already going through a lot of stress. If and when they have to wear something that’s not dignified can affect their mental health and contribute to depression and negative thoughts. These thoughts can be a hindrance to their over all well-being and willingness to get better.

What are the Common Concerns Associated With Hospital Gowns?

People often wonder why hospital gowns have an open back. When patients have to wear them, they often have some concerns about wearing them. How are others perceiving me? How long do I have to walk around in this attire? I wonder what others are thinking about me? These are some of the common questions that may cross a patient’s mind when they have to wear gowns that are wide open from the back and unable to cover the patient properly.

Why Are Hospital Gowns Disliked By So Many Patients?

Improper Fit:

Hospital are open from the back so that doctors and nurses can have easy access for check ups and tests. But improper fitting is one of the most common reasons why patients hate wearing them. They are either too loose or too tight and can make the wearer feel conscious. If the gown is the right size it can make the patient feel comfortable.

Too revealing:

Hospital gowns that don’t have enough coverage make the wearer feel very uncomfortable and undignified. What’s needed to make the gowns secure and less revealing is a generous overlap at the back with proper means to secure the closing. Moreover, when the patient is resting on the bed, the threads and knots at the back can prove to be quiet uncomfortable and annoying for the one wearing the hospital gown.

Wrong Length:

Hospital gowns are generally shorter in length and that makes the patient feel uncomfortable. There are people who ask if they can wear their pants, skirts or pajamas under the gown. People who are not used to wearing short length clothes don’t find gowns to be modest enough.

Sensitive Skin:

Hospital gowns can be too rough especially for sensitive skin. Whether its an elderly patient who is going to wear the gown or a young person, any fabric that’s too rough and aggravates the skin can make the experience worse than it already is. Sitting or laying on ties and/or knots is not only uncomfortable but can cause bed sores and skin abrasions.
